The Zenzic team made its return to Yokohama last week, led by Frances Williamson, Head of Stakeholder Engagement, to participate in the 2024 JSAE Annual Congress (May 22-May 24). As Asia’s premier automotive engineering and technology event, the 2024 JSAE Annual Congress attracted an impressive 600 exhibitors and 90,000 attendees over three dynamic days, with visitor numbers noticeably higher than last year.
This prestigious event serves as a central hub for unveiling the latest breakthroughs in automotive technology, driving innovation, and fostering growth opportunities across global markets. This year, the event emphasized crucial themes such as environmental sustainability and safety, while connectivity and automated driving received significantly more attention compared to previous years.

At stand 1451, and joining forces with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC), Zenzic’s presence at the event highlighted their commitment to pioneering the future of mobility and representing CAM Deployment UK, CAM Supply Chain UK, CAM Scale Up and CAM Testbed UK as well as learning about developments in Japan.
Zenzic was featured on the JSAE UK Pavilion alongside Scale-up alumni: Beam Connectivity and Eatron Technologies, and others on the stand included Intelligent Energy, Pickering Interfaces, TotalSim Ltd – Experts in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Drive System Design, UKBIC and WAE.
During the event, Zenzic, working alongside CCAV and DBT, participated in a hectic series of meetings and engagements, showcasing industry knowledge, expertise and connecting companies and delegations to innovative solutions, contributing to the collective advancements in the field of automotive engineering.
Amongst other meetings, Zenzic met with The University of Tokyo and Takahiko Uchimura to discuss further collaboration on the Mobility Innovation Week in November 2024 and further visits to the UK to explore potential opportunities for collaboration.
Other meetings included Martin Kendall and other contacts from Vantec – who are working with Nissan, StreetDrone, Angoka, North East Automotive Alliance, BP, Newcastle University, Nokia and Womble Bond Dickinson to find out how the V-CAL – Zenzic CCAM project is being received in Japan.
This meeting also brought new ideas for future opportunities and the chance to discuss these topics further with Thomas Sors and Feda Abidrabbu from Beam Connectivity, an exceptional CAM Scale-up Alumni. It was also great to see Bob Bateman, Nissan, who leads on CAM in the UK and heads up a number of projects including evolvAD – Zenzic, and Horiba Mira’s President, George Gillespie OBE and Alastair Evenson, the main contact for assured-cav.com, part of CAMTestbedUK, from Horiba Mira, amongst many others!
Building on last year’s successful engagement activities, Zenzic also connected with several leading Japanese companies to explore how their thinking in Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) has evolved over the past 12 months and to discuss their plans. There was a palpable enthusiasm for collaboration between the UK and Japan, driven by shared challenges such as aging populations, a shrinking workforce affecting freight, logistics, and heavy industry, large rural areas with limited transport options, and increasing urban congestion.
Both countries are eager to find innovative solutions to these pressing issues, making this ongoing dialogue and partnership invaluable for driving progress in CAM.
