Partners: Aim Technologies (Lead), TRL Limited.
Aim Technologies Ltd will develop a ‘lift-and-shift’, CAM drive-by-wire hardware and software solution that delivers seamless electronic control of a vehicle across full range of electronic actuator systems (braking / throttle / steering / gearing / dash functions).
Its universal design will include a triple redundant (failsafe) system, including independent fault detection, operating over a CAN-Interface module, using a proprietary locked-down, safety-critical foundation code controlling the fundamental interactions / protocols. The system will automatically and safely stop the vehicle in system failure, meeting the most stringent requirements (ASIL-D).
TRL will develop a relevant framework to evidence ISO26262 and wider international compliance, whilst validation will take place at UTAC’s world-class CAM Testbed UK, all enabling Aim to demonstrate safety and security by design to industry-supported standards.
The solution will be integrated into subcontracting-partner’s autonomous vehicle platforms, Cavonix’s off-road autonomous 4×4 and Evie Autonomous’ Electric-Pod for validation testing.
Meeting the performance of market leader, our accredited, end-to-end, drive-by-wire platform will be commercially available (2026 onwards) to CAM-developers at a five times more affordable price point, and once manufactured-at-scale for mass deployment (2030 onwards) a price point of again five times more affordable.
The hardware-agnostic interoperability with a full-range of off-the-shelf electronic actuator systems, for which Aim Technologies is an accredited supplier, is unique, and delivers critical universality.
Further novelty is delivered through the ability to self-calibrate the experiential features of each vehicle type. An intuitive user-friendly interface allows users to simply fine-tune, in real-time, the non-safety calibration thresholds (e.g., throttle-mapping / gearing ratios for smoothness) to generate an application-layer code (i.e., vehicle specific) for microprocessor upload. This removes the requirement to engage with expensive Tier-1 OEMs and / or subcontractors for integration and calibration support.
Aim Technologies is a well-established, commercially operating, UK SME who to date have self-funded the production of 30 innovative data acquisition / analytical products for the niche automotive industry. Through our commercial partners and industry awareness, we’re aware of a significant market gap for affordable CAM drive-by-wire technologies that are practical to implement / support.
With increasing levels of competition and nascent yet stringent global regulations to be met, the project is risky, CCAV will help reduce this risk, enabling partners to accelerate the project and deliver a broader scope and excitingly engage with TRL and UTAC, leaders in CAM regulation and testing.
Dissemination through CCAV and Zenzic will enable us to showcase this solution, increasing industry interest whilst generating evidence to regulatory standards, helping to expedite commercialisation.
