Automated vehicles can operate without connectivity — but connected and automated vehicles can do far more. Real-time decision making, V2X communication, fleet management, HD mapping, remote monitoring and data sharing all depend on the infrastructure and data services layer that this roadmap addresses.
The roadmap is based on analysis from the original Roadmap workshops in November and December 2022 and a subsequent detailed workshop on data and infrastructure in August 2023, with participants from government, industry and academia. It draws out the challenges and opportunities for the UK and distils them into seven critical recommendations.
