The ‘Harlander Project’ will establish UK’s first operationally-ready and commercially viable deployment of an automated shuttle service operating without an on-board supervisor on mixed-use public roads within the Belfast Harbour Estate.
Accelerating the introduction of autonomous public transport services and addressing the increasing demand for public transport, the ‘Harlander’ project will establish the UK’s first operationally ready and commercially viable deployment of a fully automated shuttle service on mixed-use public roads in the 2,000-acre Belfast Harbour Estate.
Leveraging the combined international expertise of several industry-leading project partners, including BT, Horiba MIRA, Angoka, and REE, ‘Harlander’ will establish a 4-vehicle passenger
shuttle service in Belfast Harbour, providing sustainable last-mile connectivity from the Titanic Quarter railway station to Thompson Dock in Queen’s Island.
The service will transport residents, visitors and employees to key venues such as Titanic Belfast, Catalyst and Belfast Metropolitan College, thereby supporting significant economic growth in the region, enabling the development of Belfast’s Innovation District and forming an essential and integral part of Belfast Harbour’s long term strategic transport plans.
In response to increasing demand for public transport provision, ‘Harlander’ aims to deliver the most advanced autonomous service in the UK, inspire and inform sustainable future travel solutions and bring cutting-edge technology to the market.
