Now that secondary legislation is on the horizon we ask what impact will the AV bill have on those trying to get CAM technologies onto our roads? Our panel discusses this, what we have learned so far, and how we can pave the way forward.
12:45-13:00
Closing the morning agenda, we will hear from Paula Claytonsmith, reflecting on the content so far, and offering her perspectives from her work to enable technology innovation in local authorities.

Whilst some of the opportunities CAM presents will take many years to fully realise, there are plenty of near-term applications. To succeed, the CAM industry needs to balance long-term ambitions with more immediate opportunities to prove out use-cases, fuel market demand, and win customers. Join our panel as they discuss these first customers and where their needs lie.

‘This self-driving future is a matter of when and not if. The UK is positioning itself at the forefront of this transport revolution. AVs are now a scientific fact, not fiction, and present an enormous opportunity for the UK. It will be as revolutionary as the invention of the car itself.
It can provide a more inclusive transport system and help those that cannot drive, as well as giving rural communities better access to amenities. It will also help reduce carbon and help meet net zero targets.
There is immense economic opportunity and there is no doubt that it will help secure high-quality jobs in all parts of the country.’
Deputy Speaker and Chairman for Ways and Means
‘The culture that the CAM community creates will be absolutely crucial to its success. We
will be giving stakeholders the chance to input into the questions and making sure that we’re
asking and answering the right questions in our research. We are not doing this for ourselves, we are doing this for society.’
Chairman, National Infrastructure Commission
‘We are seeing big investment and money coming into the sector. It’s more fact than fantasy now and it is being supercharged by AI. We need to be purposeful, ambitious and realistic.’
UK CAM Champion, CTO & President, Oxa
